A June Ohio University graduate died in a single-car crash early Sunday morning in his hometown of Kettering.

Chase Hale, 22, ran a stop sign before crossing the six lanes of Far Hills Avenue, striking a detached garage and natural gas regulator at 2:22 a.m., according to the Kettering Police Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger was taken to a local hospital with burns and minor injuries.

The passenger pulled Hale from the vehicle and several witnesses attempted to provide life-saving techniques after the crash.

Kettering Police said there were no skid marks indicating Hale attempted to stop. Excessive speed was a known factor, but it is unknown if Hale was intoxicated. Laboratory tests will be conducted as part of the on-going investigation.

Hale graduated from Kettering Fairmont High School in 2003, where he was captain of the tennis and swim teams. He received a bachelors’ degree in marketing and business from OU.
