Chipotle: Lines heading toward border for burritos

Published: Thursday, April 3, 2008

The line for ordering a free burrito and drink at Chipotle Mexican Grill today from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. might be “several hundred deep” and wrap around the block, said a marketing representative for the restaurant.

About 15 people will be monitoring the line today and giving away T-shirts, burrito bucks for menu items and other Chipotle gear, said David Chrisman, the Athens Chipotle’s marketing representative. Steven Santino, of the Columbus band The Blasphemy Saints, will play songs from Chipotle’s store playlist from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Chrisman said.

The restaurant held two training sessions for their employees yesterday, feeding local businesses and schools during lunch and dinner by invitation only, Chrisman said.

“We’re absolutely 100 percent prepared, or as prepared as you can be for an undertaking like a free burrito day,” he said.
Although most Chipotle restaurants offer beer and margaritas, the Athens location does not have a liquor license, Chrisman said.
