The two college students found dead in a Riverpark Towers apartment probably died of a drug overdose, according to an Athens Police Department news release.

Kelly Armbruster, an Ohio University senior, and Christopher Theil, a Hocking College student, were found dead in Armbruster's apartment May 3. Theil's mother, visiting Athens for Mom's Weekend, found the two students in a bath tub and called 911 at 6:15 a.m.

Authorities released few details about the investigation until today.

The news release is based on a preliminary autopsy report by the Montgomery County Coroner's Office, which indicated the likely drug overdose and ruled out drowning as a cause of death.

There also was no evidence of "significant trauma" to either student, according to the report.

The coroner's office has not completed a toxicology report yet, and Athens Police Capt. Tom Pyle said the department has no tentative date for the release of the final autopsy.
