The Baker University Center storage addition will be completed under budget but later than originally scheduled.

The expansion, originally budgeted at $722,000, is currently running around $23,000 under projections and is expected to be finished one week later than scheduled, said Robin Faires, the project manager.

Construction was delayed two weeks because of catering demands during commencement, Robin said, and is now expected to be finished Sept. 19 when final safety inspections take place.

The addition is located behind West 82 food court by the loading docks, where a temporary cooler has been since Baker’s opening in 2007.

Additional space became necessary when officials realized during Baker’s final stages of construction that it would experience a shortage in storage capacity.

The cooling trailer, with a monthly fee of $884, has allowed Baker dining services to deal with these shortages and to comply with health regulations until construction of a permanent storage fixture could be completed.

The first level will contain a 400 square feet cooler and 192 square feet freezer, while the second level will be used for dry storage.
