Little Hocking resident Patrick Slider was indicted on several counts in connection with the robbery of the Hocking Valley Bank in Coolville, Ohio, by the Athens County Grand Jury Monday.
Slider, 44, was indicted for aggravated robbery with a gun, two counts of kidnapping with a gun, two counts of inducing panic and two counts of unlawful use of a hoax weapon of mass destruction for the July 29 bank robbery, according to a news release from the Athens County prosecutor.
Slider allegedly placed fake bombs in post offices in Guysville and Stewart July 29. While police were investigating the cases, the Hocking Valley Bank in Coolville was robbed, said C. David Warren, Athens County prosecutor.
Slider took more than $20,000 in cash, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 31, Slider faked his own death by spreading his blood, which he had collected with an IV for a 10-day period, around Mountwood State Park in Waverly, W. Va.
He then missed his court date for a different charge in Washington County, and the court charged him with failure to appear, according to the news release.
Slider is also facing counts for tampering with evidence as he allegedly burned his getaway vehicle from the Coolville
bank robbery.
Slider was also indicted for aggravated robbery and burglary in connection with the burglary of an Athens County residence on May 28 where he stole guns. Warren could not comment on whether these weapons were later used in the bank robbery.
Michigan police arrested Slider Sept. 7 in Taylor, Mich., for unrelated drug charges from Washington County, Warren said. Slider had a .25 caliber handgun in his possession, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
He is now in custody in Washington County. Once indicted, he will serve in Athens County after he finishes his sentence in Washington County, Warren said.
Slider could face a maximum of 59 years for all charges in Athens, Warren said.
Slider’s arraignment will be at 10 a.m., Oct. 1 before Judge L. Alan Goldsberry, according to the news release.
