OU awaits plans for health center

The Board of Trustees will have to wait until spring to hear a recommendation on plans to renovate Hudson Health Center and Parks Hall.

Three months after Ohio University scrapped plans to build a new health center when the estimated cost rose from $19 million to more than $30 million, Associate Vice President of Facilities Harry Wyatt said that while the renovation is being “looked into,” no proposal will be presented until the spring.

When asked about the specifics of possible renovation plans, President Roderick McDavis said, “As we’re moving forward, we are looking at all possible renovation opportunities.”

Even though there are no specific plans, Wyatt said that Hudson renovation is being included in OU’s future development plans.

The renovation of Hudson’s health facilities was first discussed after a 2007 assessment by Keeling and Associates, an independent consulting firm, found various flaws with the facilities.

The firm determined the problems were related to reduced funding.

Renovations for Parks Hall, which currently houses the non-profit clinic run by the College of Osteopathic Medicine, are still “being explored,” Wyatt said.
