Reviews of four Ohio University institutions and centers were shared with the Board of Trustees at its meeting yesterday.

The reviews are mostly internal and will help the board determine whether the institutions and centers will be continued.

Kathy Krendl, executive vice president and provost, said the reviews were based on productivity.

The Institute for Democracy in Education is requesting a two-year extension on the review. This is because of a shift in its priorities from shared governance to social justice and technology. The board will decide today whether to
allow the extension.

Also being reviewed by the board are The Center for Intelligent Chemical Instrumentation, which does research in development of smart sensors and equipment; The Scripps Survey Research Center, which provides research training for students; and The Center for Independent, Distributed and Dependable Systems, which conducts research in information technology.

Programs will be evaluated on whether they fulfill Vision Ohio goals to further OU’s reputation as a research institution and further students’ academic achievements.

The full board will evaluate the reviews today and decide whether to extend the programs.
