With a score of 982, the Ohio women’s golf team finished in10th place out of 14 teams at the Nittany Lion Invitational.

Assistant Coach Jeff Hetler attributed the team’s finish to a tough golf course and lack of experience.

“This was the first time some of the girls have seen this golf course,” Hetler said. “With the thick rough and fast greens, it is hard to get up and down from certain spots.”

Freshman Erin Cahill led Ohio individually, posting a score of 244 for the tournament, including a team-tournament-best 78 in the final round. That earned her a tie for 32nd place overall in the individual standings.

“It was great to have a freshman play that well this week,” Hetler said. “Plus, she knows she could have played even better, which is something most of the other girls can say too.”

Hetler maintained a positive attitude about his team’s performance despite coming in 10th place.

“I would have liked to see our first-round score of 326 be improved on in the following rounds,” Hetler said. “But we did better in this tournament this year than we did last year, and this is one of the toughest courses we play.”

Three other Mid-American Conference schools competed in the tournament. Western Michigan finished fourth with a score of 938, Ball State finished seventh with a 962, and Bowling Green finished tied for 11th with a 989.

Princeton won the tournament with a team score of 910, and Western Michigan’s Laura Bavaird won the individual title after shooting a 223.
