Nineteen seconds into the first shift of Saturday’s game, and the first 19 seconds of Bryan Brown’s first shift as a Bobcat, the left-winger scored his first goal.
Brown later added an assist and finished with two points, but more importantly he set the tone on Saturday against Washington & Jefferson and helped Ohio sweep its fourth series of the year, winning 8-0 Friday and 4-1 Saturday.
“It’s great to see a guy who’s been working hard all year and maybe doesn’t get the recognition he deserves to come out and get it,” center Jim Fuhs said.
Ohio has struggled on Saturdays this year, but Brown’s early goal got the momentum going.
“It just felt great out there, going out and sweeping,” Brown said. “We haven’t done that in awhile. I can’t even explain how good I feel right now.”
Brown said that when they play their best, the Bobcats can make the other team look bad, but they’ve been playing down to their opponent’s level.
Ohio (20-13) was definitely on a different level from the Presidents (20-12) this weekend. They out-shot the Presidents 102-29.
“To put together a full weekend, you can’t let up for one minute,” Fuhs said. “I thought we didn’t quite play two full games, but we made a huge improvement.”
Ohio was on a three-game losing streak coming into the series, its longest of the year.
On Friday, the Bobcats came out and scored eight goals and made sure that the Presidents had no chance of recovering and that the streak was over.
“Anybody is going to be demoralized when they’re down 6-0,” Brett Molnar said. “They came out and played more chippy, and we answered right back with a couple more goals. Nobody quit out there, everyone gave it.”
Morris said that the team gained a lot of confidence last Saturday at Illinois, and that it carried over to this weekend.
“This is the style they’re most comfortable with, and this is the style they’re most confident with,” Morris said. “So we’re going to ride this style of play the rest of the way.”
