In the Central States Collegiate Hockey League Tournament, Ohio came in third place.

Tomorrow, they will have another chance to show that they can play against the league’s best when they take on the CSCHL All-Stars.

The Bobcats will play an unusual doubleheader tomorrow. In game one, Ohio will play the second half of their series with Central Oklahoma. At night, the team will take on the best players in the CSCHL.

“It’s more for fun,” senior Clay LaBrosse said. “It’s a high-skilled game, so you go out there and pass the puck around and have a good time.”

The game used to be a traditional all-star game that pitted all-stars against other all-stars, but coach Dan Morris said that the game wasn’t drawing any interest when they were playing it at Illinois. So, a few years ago, they brought the game to Bird Arena and put a spin on the game.

This will be the last year that Ohio plays against the all-stars. Next year, the game will go back to the old format, and Morris thinks that it will be marketed better this time around. He said the league would eventually like to expand the game to include another league and have the CSCHL’s all-stars take on that league’s all-stars.

Before they play the all-star game, the Bobcats will play a series that falls on a strange timeslot: one week after the CSCHL Tournament and one week before the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Tournament.

Ohio already knows they will be playing Iowa State in the first round of nationals. The series with Central Oklahoma (14-22) is an opportunity for the Bobcats (22-14) to work on adjustments and keep active in preparation for nationals, players said.

“We definitely need to fine-tune some things,” sophomore Ryan Tessmer said. “We want to be going into nationals firing on all cylinders.”

Gerry Raymond specifically said that the Bobcats need to work on their power play.

“We want to build as much momentum going into nationals,” Raymond said.
