Boo Jackson and the Bobcats are having little trouble with the porous Kent State defense.
With a heavy dosage of Donte Harden and Chris Garrett, and some long throws from Jackson, Ohio has jumped out to a 17-13 lead at halftime.
Ohio kicker Barrett Way notched a 42-yard field goal with 36 seconds remaining in the first half to put Ohio ahead 17-13. Ohio drove the ball down to the 8 yard line, but Kent State sacked Boo Jackson for a loss of 17 yards.
Kent State had an opportunity to cut the lead before halftime, but Ohio blocked a 29-yard field goal attempt as time expired.
Chris Garrett scored on a 6-yard touchdown run to put Ohio ahead 14-6 early in the second quarter.
Not fazed, Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman found wide receiver Shawn Bayes for for an 82-yard touchdown pass to trim the margin to one, 14-13.
Jackson scored on a 9-yard run in the first quarter to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead. The score culminated an 14 play, 88 yard drive.
On the following possession, Kent State quarterback Julian Edelman scored a rushiing touchdown of his own to put the Golden Flashes on the scoreboard, but Kent State Nate Reed missed the extra point, making the score 7-6.
Harden left early in the second quarter with an unspecified injury. He is currently on sideline with ice over his right shoulder.
