'Singled Out' plans to rescue student Valentine's Day blues

Planning on spending another Valentine's Day alone?

Before collecting wood for the annual "Ex-boyfriend/girlfriend Memory Bonfire Bash," University Program Council will try to give OU students one last chance to be Singled Out tonight.

Based on the MTV dating show of the same name, OU's version will take 50 girls and 50 guys to create two perfect matches using categories like "Hair Length" and "Kissing Styles."

Two students will be picked to be the male and female contestant and then from there, each will weed out one of the 50 opposite sex members in the dating pool.

Fewer and fewer make it to each round, until only one is singled out. The couple will win dinner at the Oak Room, dessert and coffee at Seven Sauces and free movie passes courtesy of UPC.

A new feature to this quarter's Singled Out will be the golden ticket option that will allow the male or female contestant to move one of the eliminated students into the final round. This will be the third time UPC has presented the game show for OU. Some students come to participate and some just to watch.

"Last year I had a couple of friends in the dating pool and was fun to watch them humiliate themselves," senior Greg Triner said.

"I went last year, and it was very fun to watch," senior Natalie Penix said. "It was just like MTV's show."

To make sure the game runs smoothly, and entertainingly, the hosts, seniors Jeff Yoders and Kim Curry, will keep the crowd and hormones down to an acceptable level.

"I think it will be great this year because of its timing with Valentine's Day," Stephanie Detillion, recreation chairwoman for UPC said.

Slots are still available in the dating pool. Students can sign up today at Baker 428 or at the door of the show.

Singled Out will be held in the Baker Center Ballroom at 8 p.m. on Thursday and admission is $2.50.
