Lecture series begins tonight
A professor of mathematics and electrical engineering
from the Notre Dame Center for Applied Math and Electrical Engineering
will speak about cryptology and coding theory at 7 p.m. today in
Bentley Hall 236.
“Cryptology is used to send messages and store them,” Ohio University
Distinguished Professor of Mathematics Surender Jain said.
The talk, being given by Joachim Rosenthal, is titled “The three
challenges of Claude Shannon.” In 1948 and 1949, Shannon wrote two
papers that are the foundation of modern information theory.
The talk, sponsored by the OU Center of Ring Theory and its Applications,
is the first in a five-part series. It will be a tutorial, according
to a news release from the center.
