Czech orchestra to perform tonight

A world-renowned European music ensemble will perform tonight at Ohio University.

The Brno Chamber Orchestra, an ensemble from the Moravian region of the Czech Republic, is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. The group has performed in Europe since its formation in 1977 and had its U.S. debut in 1996. On its current U.S. tour, the ensemble will perform in Florida, Georgia, Pennsylvania and New York, among other states.

The Brno Chamber Orchestra will perform pieces by the composers Kohout, Mozart, Respighi and Shostakovich during their concert tonight.

Pianist Michiko Otaki, a Japanese-born artist who studied music in the United States, is a featured soloist on the tour. She has performed with the Brno Chamber Orchestra on previous tours and also was featured as a soloist on its first three recordings. Otaki also has performed with the Warsaw Wind Quartet, the Swiss Wind Quintet and the Martinu String Quartet.

The Brno Chamber Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. For ticket information, contact the ticket office at 740-593-1780. Ticket prices range from $5 to $10.
