Memorial service planned for former OU student

A memorial service for an Ohio University student who died this summer is planned for this weekend.

Thomas Wright, who died in a boating accident in Louisville, Ky., on June 30, will be remembered in a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Galbreath Chapel, OU spokesman Jack Jeffery said. The public is invited.

Wright, an education major, was finishing his last class during first summer session. After graduation, Wright was going to move to Washington, D.C., to work with community-oriented social-justice groups,

Wright, who was an education major from Jefferson, Ohio, was swimming with friends in a rock quarry when he became exhausted and could not make it across the quarry. He was pulled out of the water, but officials were unable to revive him at the scene, Matt Meyer, an OU senior from Cincinnati, said this summer.
