Last weekend, both the men's and women's Ohio club waterskiing teams
competed in a 25-team conference meet at Purdue University.
Top placers for Ohio included Cassie Meek and Justin Middaugh. Meek,
who placed second in the trick event, earned enough points alone to give
Ohio 13th on the women's side. Middaugh finished seventh in the slalom
event, as the men's team finished 14th.
The teams compete this weekend in Albany at the Great Lakes Conference
Championship, where Middaugh said they would try to place third.
"This year we've been practicing a lot every day hoping to advance
past the regional meet and into nationals," Middaugh said. "This
is the best group we've had in quite a few years, and hopefully this will
be the one (to advance to nationals)."
The top eight teams in the conference meet advance to the regional meet
held in Illinois the following weekend.
Soccer team posts two shut outs
The Ohio men's club soccer team played ungracious hosts last Saturday,
shutting out Youngstown State and Xavier 6-0 and 4-0 respectively.
Although the team scored 10 goals in the two games combined, no player
scored more than one goal the entire weekend.
"This year we have a very balanced team," club president Ben
Brant said. "This is a great way to start our soccer season."
Both games were only exhibition games, and the team will kick off its
regular season this weekend at Grand Valley State. Ohio will face Purdue,
Michigan State and Grand Valley State.
"This team has the most potential this school has ever produced,"
Brant said. "We just need to come together and gel and we can reach
our goal of nationals."
Rugby team misses sweep
The Ohio men's rugby team competed against Dayton last weekend, winning
two of the three games.
The A-team lost 13-12, while the B-team and C-team posted 21-7 and 12-0
victories respectively.
The women lost their rugby match 38-0 to Eastern Illinois.
